Those Iowa Boys sure can bang out a dent.
Actually the picture on the right is of some skin they replaced.
This is our new sturdy floor. You can also see where they have removed the inner skin and exposed the old wiring and insulation. Next week they start re-insulating and running the wire for our crazy new electrical system!
Our new anthem? You have to have wmp to view the music video by Brooks Buford.
Ron on third post of the day mentioned his new love - The Fireball...thought we'd share this pretty pic. Apparently the Hawaiian theme is common in a lot of trailers...
Since Leigh doesn't care about the "boy details" as she calls them.... I will fill you in on what's really going on, otherwise we might as well just have a big link to Crate and Barrel!
As you can see in the pics they have removed about 1/3 of the plywood sub-flooring, starting in the rear. The new floor will be 5/8" plywood (old floor was 1/2"), and the wood will be installed so that the seams run side to side supported by the cloud's steel under-frame which they are also going to reinforce.

This pic shows how they are laying out and cutting the new wood.
Some of the damaged exterior aluminum siding has been taken off of the right-rear section and will be replaced. This also exposed the original 1963 electrical wiring which will also be replaced.
That's about it for now. We are expecting some big changes by the time we get back from Chicago next week.

Sue from Iowa Boys sent us a bunch of pictures tonight. The photo album she put together really shows the damage to the floor. Yikes.
Well they've officially started, and we've incurred our first additional cost!
Apparently the floor wasn't structurally sound. The previous owner put a floor in and the thickness of the wood he used isn't safe. So they're lifting the entire shell off and replacing the floor.
We're going to stop in tomorrow and take some pictures.

Better than action figures. Available for loving in June 2005
I really liked the bold color for outside but felt it needed to tie in somehow with the interior. During our trip back east, I talked it over with my parent's friend Becky who is a designer/decorator - and throw pillows were the obvious answer.
Today, after ordering the denim-like upholstery fabric, Brian and I went to Crate and Barrel and found these pillows and a duvet cover:
orange throw pillows
viktoria duvet cover (white with flowers)
we picked orange. for the awning. we picked orange.
(the color is much more vibrant in person)
Hey all -
Not a lot to report on the renovation front because we've been traveling since Friday. Right now we're in NY - we came out for my cousin's wedding, which was on Saturday. It was so much fun, so beautiful and it was great to see family that I hadn't seen in YEARS.
Sunday we ventured to foxwoods casino and had a great time playing poker with the young college students. We can't wait to park there for awhile.
We also managed to pass the airstream bug on to my dad, and to my cousins - it'll be interesting to see who actually gets one!

I woke up having second thoughts on the color awning we chose. You know the colors inside - the walls are white...so even though the awning is outside, I'm having second thoughts on the tan. Sue at Iowa Boys advised us from going too light (dirt) and too dark (heat) when choosing a color.
We were also considering:
4653 blue tweed
5704 black/white (it looks like grey) bar
We probably don't have much time to change our minds - but we'd love to hear opinions! xoL
Each campsite comes with a picnic table and fire-ring. There is tent camping allowed so, I'm thinking 3 tents each night would work in addition to our trailer (and Brian thinks we could sneak in a few extra people).
We're thinking about reserving 2 extra beachside campsites - because they don't have official group sites, however, they aren't guaranteed side by side. I'm also looking into group sites in Angeles National Forest, so whatever it ends up being we'll let you know.
I know Aaron's staying over one of the nights...let us know if you want to join.
