August 2, 1876 is when Wild Bill Hickok was shot, and the "Days of 76" is a week long celebration of those historic times.

Our timing to be here couldn't have been better, we ended up passing through here by accident!

Pretty amazing coincidence... my great great great great great Granfather Hymie Brivic and his brother Morty headed out west to Deadwood in their early teens, with visions of opening up a little Jewish deli, and spreading Jewish soul food to this desolate wasteland. What they hadn't counted on were the regular ass-kickings they got, as they were the only Jews in town. Despite this, and perhaps to try and win favor with the locals, they hosted a nightly poker game right there in the restaurant. One night, as the story is told, Morty, who was severly short-stacked, excitedly pushed all-in with pocket deuces and accidentally spilled some cole slaw on the cards. A man across the table took offense and shot him in the heart. Horrified, Hymie, the massive chip leader, called and won the hand when his 2-4 offsuit straightened on the river to beat the shooter's pocket queens. He was instantly shot too. And, lo these many years later, Jews have still never returned to Deadwood, much to the dismay of the populus, who really really miss all the deilcious stuffed cabbage, knishes and kasha varnishkas!! Damn shame...
