Does anyone know what a barking spider is?
I tried googling the phrase and couldn't really find anything. Brian says we have barking spiders, and while I may have unknowingly heard them in the past, he was amazed I had never heard of barking spiders.
Must be a west coast thing - but then what are they doing here?!

Um, if you're talking about what I think you're talking about, then this whole post is pretty funny. I'll have to wait to see some of the other replies before I pass, er, judgement on this one.

Leigh, what did you or Curtis have for dinner? I'd blame Brian.

I trust this link will shed some light. Please see #23, #74, #155, #215, and #257 if you need a scapegoat (Poor Curtis!).

It is interesting to note how instantly popular this posting has become. What is it about the colonic colliope (#59) that everyone seems to love so much?
Perhaps a joke can explain it:
An old man is having his yearly physcial. The doctor, after a thorough examination asks him, "Do you suffer from flatulence?"
The old man says, "Suffer? It's one of my greatest pleasures."

They are often known as whistling or barking spiders because of the sounds most species can produce by rubbing rows of modified spines on the basal segments of their palps (front pair of limb-like sensory/mating organs) against opposing spines on their jaw bases (the stridulating organ).
