Happy New Year!
Love, Brian & Leigh

kennedy space center

Astronaut

Today we took the day off and went to Kennedy Space Center.

Shuttle1

It was so much better than Epcot, and when we went inside the Space Shuttle Explorer I got a rush of adrenaline - I have trouble in airplanes never mind outer SPACE!

Shuttle2

With tiles on the outside and screws holding it all together, we were amazed at how primitive the shuttle seems.

publix tree

Tree

This tree is near the local Publix.  We like Publix markets and appreciate the handi-wipes they provide by the shopping carts.

update

Birds_3

This morning I called animal services hoping that they would rescue the kitten trapped in the closed up trailer next door.  The people that run this campground said they got in touch with the person "responsible" for it and he showed up this afternoon and told Brian that that he was asked to leave.  This evening he pulled the trailer away with poor black baby kitty jostling around inside.

On a lighter note, we always see these birds in pairs - anyone know what they are?

kitty neglect

Cat

This little kitten is in the trailer next to us.  The person who owns it hasn't been around since we've been here.  It's been alone for at least the last 3 days.  We reported it to the campground.  Tomorrow we'll have to do something more.  Every time we go outside, little black kitty comes to the window and cries.

epcot

Epcot

Today we paid $60 each to get into Epcot, where we spent at least an hour looking for food, and ended up spending $20 on a burger and chicken tenders that gave us both stomach aches. We then spent 20 minutes in line for a boat ride and 20 minutes waiting to get off. During the wait we were tortured by the the peppy tour boat employee who told jokes very LOUDLY into the microphone. We then spent 80 minutes in line for basically a 5 minute imax movie where your feet dangle and they spray orange spray at you. Then we left. Bah humbug.

christmas eve

Holiday

Tonight when I returned to the trailer after my shower it was surrounded by carolers singing "Oh Holy Night." Brian was hiding inside pretending not to be home.

This is our current spot just outside of Orlando.

regan & mackenzie

Lrm

Almost every night this week, we've been hanging out with my sister Regan and her daughter (my niece) Mackenzie.

The day we took this picture, they stopped by after Regan got off work from the hospital.  She didn't want to take pictures with the hospital shirt, but it was the best light we had all week.

hurricane damage

Jonathand

The park we're staying in suffered a lot of damage from a hurricane last year.  They say it was one of the nicest state parks in Florida until the hurricane.

For those looking for campground tips:  the Johnathan Dickenson sites near the river (4 miles away) still have trees, however, dogs aren't allowed.

alligators

Alli1

Lucky for Curtis he saw  the park rules on alligators and refrained from acting out.

Alli2

These 2 gators apparently spend a lot of time in this spot.  One kind of glared at us, but neither moved.

Alli3

TT in FL

Tarp

Pictured above is our very attractive tarp and our current location. We have a leak in the back window, which we've isolated, but we haven't yet come up with a solution that isn't so trailer trash.

bites

Bites

We're pretty much covered in bug bites.  Not sure how the snowbirds endure it every year.

blowing rocks

Brocks

The picture above was taken today at Blowing Rocks Preserve in Jupiter Island; and this weekend marks 6 months on the road!

wildlife

Birds_2

There are a ton of incredible birds here. These pelicans are pretty used to humans, so we were able to get pretty close.

Turtle

We saw this tortoise near the beach. Brian picked him up and he got pretty mad and hissed at us.

finally a photo

Sebastian

The mac is back and is just the operating system - no programs. Looks like we lost everything from August on in terms of pictures. At least there's the blog.

Anyway, our current location is beautiful. Florida state parks really are very nice. I'm just getting eaten alive by the sand flies, no-see-ums or whatever you call 'em.

hard drive

The mac dr. had to order a new hard drive. We'll post a photo album at the end of the week when we get it back.

no pictures

no picture posts until we get the mac back...sorry!

sebastian inlet

Sebastian

Today we moved a few hours south to Sebastian Inlet. We're right on the water again. The mac is getting fixed, so hopefully we'll have it back soon so we can post some pictures of this place.

mac down

MacYesterday the gillette invisible solid fell from one of the overhead cabinets and landed on the mac and made a little dent (see arrow).  Now the mac won't boot up.

If we can't get it fixed today, we'll have to find a place at our next location.  Tomorrow is a drive day - and so far we've decided to stick with the Florida plan.

should we stay or should we go?

Weather

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 7 am EST Friday...

Strong easterly winds of 20 to 30 knots will continue over the coastal waters today... with gusts to gale force possible. These winds will rapidly build seas as well as breakers in the surf zone. Breakers of 5 to 7 feet this morning are expected to build to 6 to 9 feet this afternoon and continue tonight. Boating conditions along inlets will become hazardous from the rough surf. Breakers will slowly subside on Friday as winds become offshore behind a cold front.

Satellite

Above is a satellite shot of where we are parked.  We're literally on the beach.  It's bad news outside.  We're going to talk to park rangers to see if we have to pull out early.  Meanwhile we're also deciding whether or not to continue with Florida.  The weather next week doesn't look any better and again we have beach parking.

bulow plantation

Bulow1

Over the weekend we went on a hike at Bulow Plantation Ruins Historic State Park.  It seems that we're inadvertently doing a tour of the old sugar mills of the South.

Bulow2

canoe ride

Canoe_1

Yesterday we went on a canoe ride on the Intracoastal Waterway.  Brian suggested that I might be the "worst" paddler ever and I argued that my early 80's summer camp technique was still in top form.

flagler beach

Flagler1

We love our location this week, feels like California.

Flagler2

The beach is right on the other side of the bushes.
