H-E-B

Photoshoot

In my continuing coverage of groceries across America: we've been doing the majority of our shopping in Texas at the H-E-B.  We spent a week trying to guess what the initials stood for, and finally just asked someone.

This week we learned that the H-E-B is also a good place for a photoshoot.

dumpster diving

Dumpster

When I opened the dumpster in the state park we're staying at, I was startled by this handsome fellow and literally jumped back a couple feet dropping everything I was holding.

sheep

Goat

This morning we picked up Curtis from camp, also home to herds of fabulous sheep.  Now of course, I want a sheep farm.

co-workers

While in Chicago, we got to see the people I work with every day.  From left to right:  Raman (also my cousin), me, Darren (based in Canada) and Siouxzi (works in Chicago at the warehouse).

family fun

Sue_gramps

This was another weekend of video shoots for Brian and my aunt. Yesterday she invited Gramps to join her in drawing on the wall with chalk markers.

sunday times

MotherboxOur friend Jeff Brivic was in Arts section of the New York Times today.  Jeff collects the works of artist Daniel Johnston.

The story reports some differences between the collectors and the artist's family...but fails to include Jeffie's website.

feet

Feet

Last night we hung out with my parents, my aunt and grandfather in Chicago.  Brian and Gramps spent some time comparing their feet.

rover's ranch

Boarding

Tomorrow morning Curtis checks in to Rover's Ranch for 5 nights while we go to Chicago for work.

tasteless

Katrinas

This restaurant is down the street from where we're staying. It's no surprise they didn't have any cars in the parking lot.

river walk

Riverwalk

Sunday we went to the world famous San Antonio River Walk. I was fighting a cold so I only took this one lousy picture. We also drove by the Alamo, (not the car rental place). I found a much prettier picture of the river walk here.

Happy Valentines Day!

great escape

Tide

Yesterday afternoon we opened our door to take Curtis on a walk and discovered the tide was about 4 feet from the door and was moving in quickly.  We packed up in about 20 minutes and headed for higher ground.  This picture was the best I could do in a panic, but it does show the darkness in the sand where the water was reaching.

curlew

Curlew

We were lucky to see this Long-billed Curlew in our front yard yesterday, because he is "one of the most threatened shorebird species on the continent"

GMA

Neighbors

Yesterday, Good Morning America was here at Padre Island interviewing the park rangers.  Later in the day, a low flying helicopter went down the coast with a camera shooting all of the trailers and RV's parked on the beach.  We don't know when the story will air, but we'll tuning in to GMA until it does.

office view

Office_view

The view this week from "the office" is stunning.

rally

Rally

The vintage rally is officially underway. We caught this beauty arriving on Thursday evening. We haven't had a chance to talk to them yet (there are SO many people here), but I definitely want to get the model and year info on this trailer.

We're working on a photo album and will link to it tomorrow.

business dinner

Clinks

Last night we had dinner with a woman I work with from coremetrics and her friend Tigger. It was all very serious business.

dinner

Dinner

Last night we went out for dinner with some members of the WBCCI Texas Highland Lake Unit.

go home!

Trailert

As I've mentioned, this weekend is the Airstream Rally.  We're parked in a circle off of the main loop where the vintage trailers will be grouped.  There are about 12 spots, all of which have been empty this week except for the trailer pictured above.  We keep hoping they'll leave, but if they don't, at least they might qualify as vintage (+25 years old).
