Thank you both so much for making people aware of today's NY Times article! As it has apparently turned out, the writer of the article, Randy Kennedy, has sided with the Johnstons (primarily Daniel's father and brother) who have done nothing but exploit Daniel's art for their own personal gain from day one. I somewhat understand the NY Times writer's dilemma... it's hard for people who first meet Daniel's family to come away from it feeling anything but empathetic. At first meeting, they come across as very simple country folk... but are in actuality quite the opposite! (Rather brutal examples of this abound, and are, unfortunately, way too complicated to mention here with any degree of accuracy!) Interestingly, though, what the article fails to bring to light is all the money that Jeff Tartakov (Daniel's former manager) and myself have spent over the years buying artwork (at TOP dollar, I might add!) directly from the family, and essentially providing a very nice living for Daniel! Now, I guess because the artwork has gone precipitously higher in price, we're made out to be bad guys because we won't share the profits with Daniel and his family! (Hmmmm... following that logic, I wonder if they would have offered us any rebates if prices had gone south or if his art was now worthless???)
Thanks again for the mention, guys! You RULE!! Hope you're both well and happy!

We read the article too, and felt there were some gaps in explanations. With parents and a "man-child" who's so protected, its hard to find out what the real story is...
