  • Flying Cloud is the model name of our 1963 Airstream... now at large (but often just parked) in the 38th state.

history

  • Our Flying Cloud was built in Santa Fe Springs, California around 1962. Airstream manufactured the Flying Cloud model from 1950-1963, so this one was the end of the line.
  • It was originally registered as #11229 in the Wally Byam Caravan Club International, or so we have heard.
  • We took over this blog along with the trailer from the previous owners. We are the Flying Cloud's fifth owners.
  • An ad for a 1958 Flying Cloud.

memorial day

DSC03198blog.jpg

This weekend we went camping in the Collegiate Peaks with Michael's dad and Sharon who were visiting from Georgia.

Michael's dad has been restoring a 1972 Overlander (himself!) for the past year. He didn't finish polishing it until just before they left - his polish made ours look pretty shabby, and he's only on the first step! The fact that the guys both own these toys is really just a coincidence, but they are cute together, aren't they?

We had never seen their Airstream before (well, we did see it when it was in about 5,000 pieces in his garage) so the fact that the local bakery put a red stripe on this airbrushed "Airstream" on Sharon's birthday cake was just another lucky coincidence. Then again, Michael thinks we should've known: Doyle has never met a car, motorhome, boat or trailer that could not be improved with a stripe.
